Malang City Government Receives World Bank Assistance for Waste Processing

Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – Malang City is one of the areas that received assistance from the World Bank for the construction of an Integrated Waste Management Site (TPST) in the implementation of the Local Service Delivery Improvement Program (LSDP). To review the readiness of the plan, representatives from the World Bank together with the Directorate General of Regional Development (Bangda) of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia visited the Waste Management UPT at the Supit Urang TPA, Malang City, Tuesday (29/8/2023).

Head of Public Works Sub-Directorate of the Directorate General of Regional Development of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Indra Maulana Samsul Arief said that in principle the arrival of the group was to see the readiness of Malang City in the context of the TPST development plan. The agenda carried out in this visit was the exploration of regional data and information for the preparation of the Environmental and Social Management Framework Document.

Furthermore, he revealed that the Supit Urang TPA in Malang City was considered good and worthy of being the locus for TPST development. "This is one of the best TPAs ​​in Indonesia. The indicators are clear, the equipment and technology are very complete and still functioning well. The human resources are qualified and supported by a sufficient budget. The attention of the Mayor of Malang is also very great towards waste management. This is a good capital for the development of TPST later," explained Indra.

Separately, the Mayor of Malang expressed his pride and gratitude for Malang City being selected as one of the trusted regions in this program.

"There are several TPA in Indonesia that use sanitary landfills and the city that is considered successful in overcoming its leachate is Malang City. So the World Bank came to review in order to provide assistance for processing city waste. The funds disbursed were around Rp300 billion which were given in stages over five years. Grateful and hopefully this will be a pilot," said the Mayor of Malang.

In addition to conducting a review, a discussion was also held with the Malang City Government, in this case the Environmental Service (DLH). This activity also involved representatives from residents around the Supit Urang TPA, scavengers, and the Malang Waste Bank (BSM). (ari/yon)
