Jakarta (malangkota.go.id) – Thanks to the commitment and concrete efforts through strategic policies in encouraging the acceleration of digital transformation, the Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji, received an award at the 2023 Indonesian Figures Appreciation event in the Digitalization Development category from TEMPO Media. This award was received directly by the Mayor of Malang, Sutiaji, in Jakarta, Tuesday night (29/8/2023).

Based on the Indonesian Digital Society Index (IMDI), Malang City is considered to have succeeded in achieving a significant score with the highest points in the Infrastructure and Ecosystem pillars as well as digital skills which are on par with big cities such as South Jakarta and Central Jakarta.
In addition, the results of the Regional Government Transaction Electronification (ETPD), Malang City also showed that it had entered the digital level with a score of 96,7. ETPD is an effort to change regional government revenue and spending transactions from cash to digital-based non-cash.
"The hard work done so far has paid off. Alhamdulillah, collaborative development with the role of hexahelix has become a model for Malang City. Fiscal independence is very important and continues to be encouraged through various breakthroughs and innovations," explained Sutiaji.
The commitment of the Mayor of Malang to restore and build the economy of Malang City has also been realized, one of which is through the stimulus for the development and strengthening of the digital economy through e-commerce, namely by encouraging MSMEs and creative economy actors to follow and apply technological advances.
"Digitalization for MSMEs in an era like today is a necessity and important. The MSME sector also absorbs a large number of workers, so it greatly helps the government in reducing unemployment rates, especially open unemployment," explained the bespectacled man.
As a result, the economy of Malang City grew significantly from -2,26% in 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic hit to 4,21% in 2021. Then in 2022, the economy of Malang City grew very impressively to 6,32%. This figure even exceeds growth before the pandemic and is the highest record in the last decade.
Meanwhile, TEMPO President Director Arif Zulkifli said that the 2023 Indonesian Figures Appreciation is a form of appreciation for figures who have contributed to development in their respective regions and at the national level.
"They have made achievements in their fields, and proven real work for the community, for Indonesia. Regional heads must be able to provide the best public service, know what the people's needs are and seek opportunities so that the role of the state can be felt by the community," explained Arif.
According to him, there are various strategic issues faced in the regions. Starting from there, Tempo continues to monitor the development of programs carried out by regional heads by considering various indicators.
Among them, using secondary data from various institutions such as the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and IMDI from the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo), ETPD which was launched by Bank Indonesia through representative offices in various regions.
"As well as various other sources to find out the development of the performance of regional heads in their respective places. We also involve our correspondents in various regions to find deeper and of course accurate information. Including the Minister of Home Affairs who also participated in the discussion," he explained.
The Indonesian Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, who was present and also the keynote speaker, expressed his appreciation and congratulated the award recipients.
The Minister of Home Affairs said that the eight categories given in the 2023 Indonesian Figures Appreciation are closely related to the Ministry of Home Affairs' evaluation indicators.
"Awards like this are variables for evaluation. A competitive climate that can be seen by the public. Congratulations to the friends who were selected, hopefully they will be more motivated. For those who have not, hopefully they can be called to achieve and gain public trust," he concluded.
Also present at the award night were the Indonesian Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (MenPANRB) Abdullah Azwar Anas, the Indonesian Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, as well as governors, mayors and regents who received the 2023 Indonesian Figure Appreciation Award.
