Installation of 214 Lamps Will Beautify Ijen Main Road

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Jalan Besar Ijen is one of the protocol roads in Malang City. Along this road there are also many large buildings with old architecture from the colonial era. This is what makes Jalan Besar Ijen very iconic and beautiful with rows of trees that provide shade.

To strengthen the branding of Jalan Besar Ijen as an icon of Malang City, the Malang City Government (Pemkot) together with the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) are working together to revitalize the Ijen area. The plan is, on this protocol road initiated by Dutch architect Ir. Herman Thomas Karsten, lights will be installed that will not only illuminate, but also beautify the area.

For this reason, the Malang City Government and UMM signed a cooperation agreement in implementing the Corporate Social Responsibility (TSP) program related to the revitalization of the Ijen area at Malang City Hall, Tuesday (5/9/2023).

Malang Mayor Drs. H. Sutiaji revealed that the contribution of all parties is greatly needed in the development of Malang City, including active participation from education circles, such as UMM. "Thank you for the fast action from the UMM team and the Malang City Government who always collaborate. This shows that our cooperation is not just once, previously Malang City was also raised by UMM through Kampung Warna-Warni," he said.

Sutiaji said that the Ijen area was chosen as the project location because it is one of the icons of Malang City which is also a legacy built during the Dutch East Indies era. Sutiaji revealed that this lighting project will be carried out along Jalan Ijen starting in front of the Mayor's Official Residence to in front of the Ijen Cathedral Church. "I also offer to continue to the UKS monument," said the bespectacled man.

Meanwhile, UMM Rector, Prof. Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd said that the TSP program is a form of synergy between UMM academics and the Malang City Government. A total of 214 lamps will be installed along Jalan Ijen. "The 214 units will be divided into locations, some on the median and some on the pedestrian. 78 units will be placed along the park on the median and 136 other points are on the pedestrian path," he said.

The lights to be installed are designed with a heritage feel. For the lights on the median, they are designed to be 4,5 meters high, while those on the pedestrian path are designed to be 3,5 meters high with a distance between lights of around 8 meters.

Fauzan said that the project, which costs around Rp3,2 billion, will begin on Wednesday (6/9/2023), with an estimated duration of one month. "So that (installation of lights) is what we are working on, but consider next we don't want it to be just lights. But we have to make it a big stage to strengthen Malang City as a City of Education. Well, what activities will be there, we will arrange next. But the main branding is education," he explained. (ari/yon)
