Kedungkandang (malangkota.go.id) – RW V, Arjowinangun Village, Kedungkandang District, Malang City, showcased urban farming during the Healthy City Field Visit in Malang City in 2023, Tuesday (19/9/2023). How the hydroponic and aquaponic gardening systems produced at the RW V Hall were demonstrated to the judges.

Resident of RW V, Arjowinangun Village, Hendra Mina, explained that in his area there are two types of plants that are cultivated in limited land. The first is hydroponic vegetables, and the second is organic vegetables. "For hydroponic vegetables, we usually plant siomak, pakcoy, lettuce, and romaine which are easy to cultivate but the demand in the market is very high," explained Hendra, Tuesday (19/9/2023).
With the vegetables he cultivates, Hendra said that residents can pick their own healthy vegetables from their gardens. In addition, planting hydroponic vegetables and organic vegetables can also increase income because they have good selling value. "The vegetables we cultivate are also harvested faster, it only takes 30 days after production to be harvested," said Hendra.
Whether planting hydroponic vegetables or organic vegetables, Hendra said that both have their own difficulties and arts. Caring for plants is a form of attention because plants are living things that need affection in order to grow well and produce a successful harvest.
In addition to developing vegetables in RW V, Arjowinangun Village, fish farming is also developed to meet the need for animal protein. Almost in every resident's house, there is currently fish farming such as catfish and tilapia by utilizing barrels or tarpaulin ponds.
In RW V, Arjowinangun Village, there are also leading businesses, namely butterfly pea flower drinks, butterfly pea flower batik, and various crafts that utilize used goods. This is done not only to protect the environment but also to increase community income.
In addition to visiting the Sustainable Food Yard (P2L) garden, the 2023 Healthy City Jury also visited several other points in RW V, Arjowinangun Village, including Arjowinangun Village, Arjowinagun Health Center, HIPPAM Mandiri, RW V Integrated Health Post, Baiturrahim Mosque, and also SDN Model Malang City.
At SDN Model Kota Malang, the Healthy City Jury also directly monitored various facilities, including the honesty canteen, learning facilities, and UKS services at the school. (cah/yon)
