Ahead of Simultaneous Elections, Acting Mayor of Malang Urges ASN to Be Wise in Using Social Media

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Ahead of the implementation of the Simultaneous General Election (Pemilu) in February 2024, State Civil Apparatus (ASN) in the Malang City Government are advised to be careful and more careful in using social media. The reason is, if ASN intentionally likes and comments on the social media accounts of legislative candidates (caleg) and presidential candidates (capres) and their deputies, they will be subject to sanctions.

The appeal was conveyed by the Acting Mayor of Malang, Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM when met, Friday (29/09/2023). According to him, currently many legislative and presidential candidate accounts have emerged, so ASN should be neutral and not be frontal in using social media.

"As ASN, there are indeed several things that should not be done ahead of the 2024 political year. Moreover, ASN have an integrity pact so they must be neutral in the election processes," he added.

When asked if there was an indication of an ASN commenting and/or giving a like, Wahyu admitted that he would conduct a further review. "I will see first, related to ASN who like content on social media and others. But some time ago we have socialized the prohibition," he continued.

"Sometimes we are not aware, but there are things that we should not do related to the 2024 political contest. If there are indications or findings, of course there will be stages. Whether it is an element of intent or not," he added.

Furthermore, according to him, in taking action against matters related to the 2024 Election, there has been the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) as an election monitoring institution. Of course, considerations and recommendations from Bawaslu will also be considered.

"In this case, Bawaslu will certainly come down to see and conduct detection, whether it is true or not if there are indications of findings. The action was due to deliberate factors or not, or due to other factors. But we hope that whatever it is will not happen," concluded Wahyu. (say/yon)
