Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – In order to help develop the startup climate in Malang City, the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (KemenkopUKM) in collaboration with the Malang City Cooperatives, Industry, and Trade Service (Diskopindag) held a Startup Development Collaboration Workshop at Whiz Prime Basuki Rahmat, Friday (28/9/2023).

Representing the Malang City Government (Pemkot), Head of Diskopindag of Malang City Dr. Eko Sri Yuliadi, S.Sos, MM expressed his gratitude to Kemenkopukm for holding this workshop in Malang City. According to him, with a total population of approximately 800.000 residents and also immigrants who are mostly students from outside the region, Malang City has extraordinary potential in the development of start-up companies.
"In Malang City, there are around 80.000 MSMEs, of which around 21.000 have been curated, around 5.250 have permits, and around 520 have halal certification. So the number of MSMEs in Malang City is quite large because Malang is the second barometer city after Surabaya," he explained.
Eko added, one form of support from the Malang City Government for the development of the startup climate in Malang City is through the use of the Malang Creative Center (MCC). The MCC can be used free of charge by the community. The MCC is also an extraordinary incubator that houses 17 sub-sectors of the creative economy.
Eko said that MCC is projected to not only produce products, but most importantly, to produce human resources (HR) that are able to drive the economy of Malang City. "This means that MCC does not only sell goods, but creates and produces HR that will build a superior economic ecosystem in each sector in the future. Until now, 2.000 events have been held and as many as 130.000 people have received benefits from MCC," he explained further.
Meanwhile, the Deputy for Entrepreneurship of the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, Ir. Siti Azizah, MBA stated that her party is ready to help startups to develop. She also said that the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs now has an entrepreneur hub that can be used by startups to network with many parties.
"We are ready to help these startups to grow. Because we are covering all of this with the entrepreneur hub, which is a platform for collaborators, entrepreneurs, partners, and the government to meet. And please feel free to network, because it is open to anyone who intends to become an entrepreneur," he explained.
Azizah said that now is the time for Indonesia to rise through startups. According to her, Indonesia as a large country has extraordinary potential in terms of market, natural resources, and human resources. So the potential is still great for startups to continue to grow. Therefore, Azizah advised the pioneers not to stop fighting and to be able to ignore the assumption that startups will not last long.
"We hope that this event can be the beginning of a discussion on how we can strengthen, add and expand collaboration between all parties that we can work together to improve entrepreneurship in Indonesia," he concluded. (iu/yon)
