Batik Textiles Decorate Hotels in Malang City

Malang City (malangkota.go.id) – Batik is one of Indonesia's traditional textiles that is known worldwide. The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) also designated batik as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity on October 2, 2009. In the same year, the Government through Presidential Decree Number 33 of 2009 finally designated October 2 as National Batik Day.

Batik that has different motifs, patterns, and colors from each other in each region is a reflection of cultural diversity in Indonesia. Currently, the trend of using batik is no longer only identical to traditional events or cultural activities, but is commonly used as a fashion style, both for formal or informal events and even as an element or accent in beautifying room decoration.

As depicted in several hotels in Malang City that present a touch of typical Indonesian batik textiles. As seen in Hotel Tugu, Hotel Tychi, and also Hotel Shalimar Malang City.

"This batik has turned out to be a work that has an attraction for guests, both local and foreign. We want to show that this batik is Indonesia's," said the Head of the Malang City Branch Management Board (BPC) of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI), Agoes Basoeki, SH, SST. Par, Sunday (1/10/2023).

The beauty of the Indonesian batik cultural heritage is presented through various uses of ornaments. In addition, there are also those who provide special corners to display batik works by local craftsmen that can be purchased by visitors as souvenirs or gifts.

"Indonesian batik motifs are a touch of culture that is inserted. Various uses of batik accents include decorative accents that beautify the corners of the hotel room, uniforms used by staff to various sweet decorations in the guest rooms," he explained. (yul/yon)
