Malang (malangkota.go.id) – Systematic, that is what Acting Mayor of Malang Wahyu Hidayat instructed the ranks of the Malang City Government regional apparatus regarding the handling of stunting and extreme poverty. This was conveyed by Wahyu during the release of food assistance in the form of eggs and meat for families at risk of stunting and the launch of the SPHP rice distribution by Perumda Tugu Aneka Usaha on Monday morning (9/10) at the Perumda Tugu Aneka Usaha Kita Malang Office.
Accompanied by related regional apparatuses including the Head of the P3AP2KB Social Service, the Head of the Health Service, the Head of the Pisda Section, and the Head of the Food Security Service, Wahyu conveyed that stunting and extreme poverty are still national issues that require special attention. He said that the Regional Government should play an active role in handling these two things. According to him, even though the prevalence rate of stunting in Malang City shows positive progress at 8,9% and the extreme poverty rate is the second lowest in East Java at 4.37%, efforts must still be made as much as possible in handling it.
Moreover, Wahyu said that when he was inaugurated as Acting Mayor of Malang on September 24, two of the four focus tasks given by President Joko Widodo were related to handling stunting and extreme poverty, while the other two focus tasks were improving public services and controlling inflation. For this reason, the Acting Mayor of Malang emphasized systematic efforts because the four things that became his duties had a correlation that influenced each other.
"Handling stunting and poverty is still a national issue, for that reason when I was inaugurated on September 24, the President ordered us, the Acting Regents/Mayors, to focus on these two things, besides public services and controlling inflation," said Wahyu.
"Therefore, even though we have made good progress, stunting at 8,9% and poverty is the second lowest in East Java at 4,37%, don't forget that this data is dynamic, it can change at any time. There are also families at risk of stunting, totaling 4.521 families. That's why we need to anticipate with maximum effort because these four tasks have a strong correlation," added Wahyu.
Based on that, the Bachelor of Planning graduate instructed systematic steps in handling these four things, especially handling stunting, extreme poverty and also controlling inflation. Wahyu then gave an example of the activities carried out by Perumda Tugu Aneka Usaha today and said that this was one form of systematic handling because its impact effectively illustrated the four tasks given to him.
"Because of this correlation, in order to be effective, I ask for systematic efforts. I instruct the relevant regional apparatus in particular, I ask for the validity of this data is important because the data must be accurate so that it can be right on target, then intensify cheap markets and social assistance, make the weighing month as an initial mitigation, and finally there must be a lot of socialization to the community, this is important and I will continue to evaluate it," he said.
"Like today's activity, this is one form of systematic effort that I want, for that I appreciate what Perumda Tunas (Tugu Aneka Usaha), Bulog, Post Office, and Rajawali Nusindo have done, why? Because in this activity, it is a form of public service in the food sector, the aim of which is to handle stunting, extreme poverty and control inflation, so this is a complete package," explained Wahyu.
Wahyu then hopes that these systematic activities and efforts will later have a positive impact. He said he will continue to oversee while carrying out his duties as Acting Mayor of Malang. Wahyu also wants the impact of this change to be measurable before and after as a form of his commitment to carrying out the President's mandate.
"I hope this has a positive impact, and continues to be carried out periodically so that it can be seen before and after. I will oversee this (handling stunting and extreme poverty) because this is a form of my commitment to the President," Wahyu concluded.
In the event initiated by Perumda Tugu Aneka Usaha, Perum Bulog, Pos Indonesia Malang Branch, and PT. Rajawali Nusindo, Acting Mayor of Malang Wahyu also had the opportunity to release the fleet used to distribute food aid and SPHP rice to 23 traditional markets in Malang City. After releasing the fleet, Wahyu also symbolically handed over food aid in the form of eggs and chicken meat to representatives of families at risk of stunting at the Gadang Village Office.
