Quick Action in Handling and Assisting Child Victims of Alleged Violence

Kedungkandang (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Government (Pemkot) moved quickly to take various handling steps including strengthening psychological assistance or trauma healing against a child who was a victim of alleged violence in the Buring Subdistrict, Kedungkandang District, Malang City.

Responding to the incident, Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM immediately visited the boy with the initials DN (7) at Saiful Anwar Hospital (RSSA) Malang, Saturday (14/10/2023).

"The handling from the regional apparatus and RSSA was very fast. So from DN's entry, it was immediately handled and the development is good. Currently, his weight has also increased. And his psychological condition, earlier when invited to communicate, he can already," explained Acting Mayor of Malang Wahyu Hidayat.

Wahyu further explained that currently DN is receiving intensive care from the RSSA medical team and is placed in a special room so that he can focus on undergoing his health recovery. During the treatment and recovery process, DN is accompanied by counselors as a form of strengthening psychological assistance or trauma healing as well as volunteers from the Sub-district Social Welfare Workers (TKSK) and Community Social Workers (PSM).

While visiting DN, Wahyu communicated DN's development with the team of doctors treating him. The Acting Mayor of Malang was also seen interacting directly with DN who was learning to color.

"Then there are also activities such as studying, coloring. The development is good, hopefully it can recover soon and be healthy including its mental condition. Hopefully the treatment will not be too long. And later after the treatment, what kind of treatment we will see further developments," said Wahyu.

Meanwhile, the Head of Dinsos-P3AP2KB Malang City, Donny Sandito said that currently his party will continue to strengthen assistance and monitor the development of DN's health, both physically and mentally. The next step after recovery, an assessment will be carried out on the family, both psychosocially and economically.

"We process it with the family first, if the family cannot handle it then we will prepare a place for treatment and to monitor the development so that it gets better," explained Donny.

One of the steps is to coordinate the Child Welfare Institution (LKSA) in Malang City or with the Provincial UPT including those related to education and others. If there is a family who will care for them, every month their progress will be monitored.

Donny further expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the residents, the sub-district and district for their quick response to this incident. He stated that the Malang City Government will continue to coordinate with related parties for the next steps. (yul/yon)
