Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The large number of great animators in Malang City is one of the considerations 4th Craft International Animation Festival (Craft Animfest) 2023 will be held in Malang City. The statement was made directly by the Director of the CRAFT Animfest Festival when holding a press conference at the Malang Creative Center (MCC) in Malang City, Thursday (19/10/2023).
Chonie Prysilia reveals Craft Animfest 2023 is the fourth edition. The festival in Malang City was attended by 237 registrants, six days of festival, 92 films, more than 20 film screening programs, and was attended by participants from 38 countries. "Malang City is extraordinary. This city has everything that supports it, such as MCC which has very complete facilities," explained Chonie.
Before deciding to hold the 4th Craft Animfest 2023 in Malang City, Chonie admitted that his party had considered everything carefully. He said that Malang City is a city in East Java Province with a population according to the 2020 census of 843.310 people. "Malang City also has one of the best vocational schools in the field of animation. Malang is also known as a city that produces great animators in the industrial world," explained Chonie.
Chonie further said that in Malang City there are 13 animation studios and 4 vocational schools that have animation majors. Data from the Indonesia Creative Cities Network (ICCN) in 2016 revealed that the animation industry in Malang City contributed greatly at the national level, namely contributing Rp46.562.885.000.000,- from the Gross Regional Domestic Product (PDRB).
He mentioned that Malang City also has an animation community that has consistently supported Craft Animfest since it was first held. Therefore, as a celebration for the community that lives and works hard for the animation ecosystem in Malang City, the 4th Craft Animfest 2023 was held. "Before holding the activity in Malang City, I had been here for the last month. Malang City is extraordinary, I immediately fell in love with this city," said Chonie.
Craft Animfest 2023 is the first festival in Asia dedicated to traditional techniques in animation (stop motion, classic drawing/painting animation, sand animation and others). Craft Animfest is also the first festival in Southeast Asia to review the latest art of animation implemented in the world (including digital techniques).
Craft Animfest is a biennial festival held every odd year since 2017. In Malang City, Craft Animation will be held on October 23-28, 2023 at MCC. For your information, October 28 is commemorated as International Animation Day. (cah/yon)
