Malang City Government Ready to Facilitate Residents Affected by Supit Urang Landfill

Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM together with the Malang City Government staff sat down with residents of Jedong Village, Jurang Wugu Hamlet, Wagir District, Malang Regency who were affected by the Supit Urang Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Malang City, Saturday (21/10/2022).

This was done considering that the Supit Urang TPA is used by Malang City residents, but the impact is also felt by Malang City Regency residents.

Acting Mayor of Malang Wahyu Hidayat said that there were three complaints that had been submitted, namely the problem of the possibility of landslides of garbage that could settle in the river, as well as water and air pollution.

"So they did complain about the impacts of the TPA. And (the complaint) has been around for a long time. So far, according to them, it has not been facilitated. They hope that there will be good facilitation so that what has been felt so far can be resolved. We discussed and offered alternative solutions. Alhamdulillah, all the problems are clear," he said.

Wahyu also revealed three requests from residents, namely regarding the construction of a health clinic for Jedong residents, the construction of retaining walls around the river, and the provision of water from artesian wells.

"Regarding health services, the Head of the Health Service and the Head of the Mulyorejo Health Center will provide health services. It can be handled free of charge for residents of Jedong village affected by the Supit Urang TPA," he explained in response to the request of affected residents.

The second problem is related to the need for clean water sources. Residents asked the Malang City Government to facilitate the construction of artesian sources. However, Wahyu said that artesian sources around the TPA are feared to be affected by waste seepage.

"It is better if we use PDAM retribution which has clearer quality. Because if the artesian source is near the TPA, it is feared that it will be contaminated. Malang City Government will also facilitate the cost of installing PDAM for free and charged MBR fee," he added.

The third problem is related to the retaining wall on the side of the Supit Urang TPA river. Residents believe that piling up garbage can cause landslides. Wahyu said that river normalization is needed first because there is too much sediment from garbage landslides.

"I ask DPUPRPKP, DLH and the PU SDA Office of Malang Regency to carry out normalization so that the water flow there can be smooth. Of course, if it is smooth, it can be overcome with soil retainers," he concluded. (vin/yon)
