Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – In essence, Muhammadiyah does not have any structural organizational relationship and is not affiliated with any political party. This is in accordance with the agreement of Muhammadiyah members at the Muhammadiyah Congress in Makassar in 1971. However, Muhammadiyah is not anti and allergic to politics.
This statement was made by Muhammadiyah figure, Din Syamsudin, at the National Recitation event entitled Strengthening Progressive National Politics at the Khadijah Mosque in Malang City, Sunday (29/10/2023).
Politics or political science, said the man whose full name is Muhammad Sirajuddin Syamsuddin, is in the teachings of Islam, so that Muhammadiyah members are given the freedom to be political and join any political party. He emphasized that basically almost all aspects of life such as social, economic and cultural are inseparable from the aroma of politics.
"It is impossible for Muhammadiyah to ignore politics because politics is part of Islamic teachings. Religion and politics are twins born from one mother. Muhammadiyah has never been unpolitical, meaning it has always been political," added the former Muhammadiyah Central Leader.
In essence, Din Syamsuddin said that since ancient times Muhammadiyah figures have contributed greatly to the world of politics. Like in 1912, Muhammadiyah founder KH Ahmad Dahlan was involved in the Budi Utomo movement.
"So in politics, it should be progressive. For example, strengthening literacy and not being divided or set against each other by any party that claims to be in the name of the people's interests," Din Syamsuddin invited.
This was agreed by the Expert Staff for Development, People's Welfare and Human Resources of the Malang City Regional Secretariat, Drs. Alie Mulyanto, MM who was present representing the Acting Mayor of Malang. According to him, the conduciveness of the region and the democratic party process are also determined by harmony between religious communities.
"Muhammadiyah is a large Islamic organization and has been actively involved in this, especially in Malang City. Ngaji Kebangsaan is very positive in all of these efforts," he said. (say/yon)
