Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – Based on the Official Statistics News release of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Malang City, Wednesday (1/11/2023), Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM said that inflation in Malang City is in good condition and under control.
In October 2023, Malang City's monthly inflation (mtm) was 0,26 percent with Year on Year (y-on-y) inflation of 2,65 percent, mainly caused by increases in the prices of rice, fuel, cayenne pepper, oranges, and chicken. This figure is still below the inflation of East Java Province.
"Yesterday, the President was worried about the price of rice, thank God, information from Bulog, the price of rice is now under control at Rp11.900,- and we will continue to check it in the market. Previously (rice prices) were up to Rp13 to Rp15," said Wahyu.
Malang City Government, said the Acting Mayor of Malang, continues to intensify various strategic steps in order to control inflation which is one of the priority issues. These inflation handling steps include price affordability, supply availability, smooth distribution, effective communication, strengthening people's purchasing power and reducing unemployment and poverty rates. Including continuing to monitor the prices of goods and services in the field so that price fluctuations can be detected as early as possible in line with the direction of President Joko Widodo.
"Our inflation is normal, our poverty is down. Regarding inflation, we must maintain it with the current conditions which according to the President are not ordinary. Among them are the interest rate decision of the United States (US) central bank, war, Indonesia's demographic conditions are not good, the political climate approaching 2024. These factors can have an impact on people's purchasing power," he explained.
For that, according to President Jokowi's direction, the city government will carry out interventions so that people's purchasing power is maintained and inflation remains under control. "We will do various ways to keep inflation good and under control. Market operations continue to be carried out, we will immediately go with TPID to the markets to check prices and keep them from rising, and prepare strategic steps to control prices so that people's affordability is maintained," he concluded.
