Kedungkandang (malangkota.go.id) – Malang City continues to strive to maintain agricultural land as an effort to maintain food security. Until now, there are at least 803 hectares of land planted with rice and 200 hectares of rain-fed rice fields. In the dry season like now due to the impact of the El Nino phenomenon, these rice fields can be irrigated well because the irrigation uses technical irrigation.

This was conveyed by the Head of the Food Security and Agriculture Service (Dispangtan) of Malang City, Slamet Husnan Hariyadi after attending a video conference with the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, KH Ma'ruf Amin in the rice field area of Wonokoyo Village, Kedungkandang District, Malang City, Tuesday (1/11/2023).
For the harvest, he said that one hectare of rice fields produces 6,8 tons and this is the second best in East Java. His party will continue to strive to maintain this achievement so that the food self-sufficiency program can be realized properly.
Together with the TNI, Slamet said that last year his party utilized less productive land in the Wonokoyo Sub-district area to plant corn. This year, the Buring Sub-district area is planted with corn and peanuts.
"In the future, we will strengthen the synergy with the TNI and various parties so that there is no more unproductive land. Thus, the community's need for food is met properly," added Slamet.
A similar statement was conveyed by Danrem 083/Baladhika Jaya, Col. Inf. Jamaludin, SH who also attended the video conference. Together with the Malang City Government, his party will be consistent and maintain its commitment so that these residents do not experience shortages or difficulties in fulfilling food needs.
According to him, with the increasing population in urban areas, it will have an impact on the reduction of agricultural land. As is the case for residential areas and shop houses (ruko). "In conditions like this, we will look for solutions, such as utilizing existing residents' land," concluded Jamaludin. (say/yon)
