Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – The heavy rain and the strong flow of water caused the retaining wall at the Sigura-gura Residence Housing Complex to collapse. Moving quickly, Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM accompanied by Assistant I for Government and Public Welfare of the Malang City Regional Secretariat Ida Ayu Made Wahyuni, Head of the Public Works and Public Housing Agency (DPUPR) Dandung Julhardjanto, MT, and Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Drs. Prayitno, M.AP., immediately inspected the location, Sunday (26/11/2023).
After the review, Wahyu said that his party had collected various reports related to the chronology of the collapse of the retaining wall. From the reports he received, the heavy rain that occurred since Saturday (25/11/2023) afternoon caused the land to be eroded by water, causing the wall on the edge of the river to be unable to withstand the pressure of the water flow.
"From the report earlier, we traced the chronology, indeed every time it rained before it was never this high. But yesterday the rain was extraordinary," said Wahyu.
When reviewing the construction of the retaining wall, Wahyu found a drainage channel under the residents' houses. In relation to this, he said that no building is allowed to be built on top of the drainage. Therefore, he ensured that he would conduct further checks on the developer.
"It was just discovered that there is a drainage channel from the developer down here. Well, this is what we will check the PSU, site plan and certificate," he explained again.
Wahyu has also asked the Village Heads and Sub-district Heads whose areas were affected by yesterday's flood to be able to inventory the needs of the residents. Wahyu further revealed that his party would immediately hold a coordination meeting with the relevant regional apparatus to carry out further handling related to this flood incident.
"After this I will have a meeting at Malang City Hall. We will check with the relevant agencies so that there will be further handling soon," he said.
In addition to reviewing the location points at Sigura-gura Residence, Wahyu and related parties also conducted reviews to several other flood-affected locations, namely Kampung Putih and in the Karangbesuki area. (iu/yon)
