Malang City Government to Organize Fiber Optic Network

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Government (Pemkot) continues to strive to beautify the face of the city and improve the security of its citizens. One of the highlights is the fiber optic network in several areas of Malang City that needs to be tidied up. In relation to this, the Malang City Government held a coordination meeting for the plan to organize the fiber optic network, Monday (27/11/2023).

Coordination meeting for fiber optic network regulation plan

Present at this coordination meeting were the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Malang City, Erik Setyo Santoso, ST., MT, Assistant for Economy and Development (Assistant 2) Ir. Diah Ayu Kusuma Dewi, MT, related regional apparatus elements and a team of fiber optic experts and representatives from internet providers operating in Malang City.

In addition to tidying up the cables that appear untidy, disrupting the beauty of the city and endangering road users, this plan to clean up is motivated by the large number of providers that do not yet have official permits from the local government. The Regional Secretary of Malang City said that the planting of poles often does not pay attention to the value of security and neatness. The presence of poles and cables in certain locations often disrupts traffic, reduces road capacity, and also reduces channel capacity.

Erik mentioned the facts on the ground that providers often do not take care of their permits to the local government, but only permits to the RT/RW level which actually does not have the authority to issue permits. Erik also said that submitting permits to the local government is closely related to minimizing damage due to the implementation of other projects.

"We invite these provider friends, hoping for goodwill because there are many activities in the field that are carried out but we also do not know if there is a permit. We hope there is a utility permit for its legality. In addition, there are obligations that must be given for the utilization of the lease of regional assets as PAD for Malang City. Then for the overhead cables, let's organize it together," explained Regional Secretary Erik.

In this meeting, Assistant for Economy and Development Ir. Diah Ayu Kusuma Dewi, MT instructed the providers to re-check the cable installation permits. "If there is no permit yet, we ask to take care of it and cooperate with the Malang City Government for the utilization of this road," she said.

Furthermore, Diah said that the Malang City Government also plans to reactivate the Wednesday Tidy Program to organize messy cables and cut cables that are no longer used.

"We are also considering building a shared tower, so all telecommunications network equipment from all providers is placed in one place that has been facilitated by the Malang City Government. We will also prepare a master plan for cable arrangement and Detail Engineering Design (DED)," Diah concluded. (ari/yon)
