DLH's Explanation of the Antique Clock at Kayutangan Heritage

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Environmental Service (DLH) is currently adding Green Open Space (RTH) by building a permanent park in the Kayutangan Heritage area located on Jalan Basuki Rahmat. The addition of RTH is not only to add to the beauty of the city, but also as an effort to reduce the number of accidents.

Because in the area around Kayutangan after the one-way lane was implemented, the speed of passing vehicles tends to be quite high which increases the risk of accidents. With the construction of this park, it is hoped that every driver can reduce the speed of their vehicles.

However, the addition of this green open space previously raised the spotlight from the Cultural Heritage Expert Team (TACB). This is because the ancient city clock or stadsklok in front of the PLN Kayutangan Heritage office on Jalan Basuki Rahmat will be moved.

Head of the Green Open Space Division of the Malang City Environmental Agency, Laode KB Al Fitra, on Friday (1/12/2023) revealed that the relocation was not carried out due to various considerations and conditions in the field.

"Actually, the plan was to adjust the design of the park that we were going to make to be a center. It turned out that the structure could not be moved, because it was a cultural heritage. Finally, we redesigned it and did not move it. The park adjusted the position of the clock," explained Laode.

Regarding the fence surrounding the clock, Laode said that the fence was not lost, it was just being repaired by the Malang City Environmental Agency.

"So the fence surrounding the clock has legs, well, it can be removed and reattached. If the fence was left there, it would not be possible, because there was construction going on and it was prone to being lost, so we secured it. When we checked it, it turned out to be rusty, so we finally fixed it, but it did not remove the ancient impression," added Laode. (say/yon)
