Kedungkandang (malangkota.go.id) – As is known, in the past week the weather in Malang City has been quite extreme with frequent high-intensity rain and strong winds. The Malang City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has also appealed to the public to always be vigilant, considering that when it rains heavily, in several points in Malang City there is always quite high water puddles.
Head of the Malang City BPBD Implementation Unit (Kalaksa), Prayitno, said that the intensity of rainfall in Malang City according to the release of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), namely ranging from moderate to heavy accompanied by lightning or strong winds will still occur.
"We urge all people of Malang City to always be vigilant. According to BMKG, from 12.50 WIB to 15.30 WIB, high rainfall will occur, although not necessarily. Especially at vulnerable locations. So, in order to prepare yourself, stay vigilant," said Prayitno, Saturday (2/12/2023).
He added, based on the release from the Juanda Sidoarjo BMKG Class I Meteorological Station, extreme weather could occur until December 3, 2023. Malang City is one of the areas in East Java that is also included in the list of warnings for disasters due to extreme weather, such as heavy rain, floods, landslides, tornadoes, strong winds and hail.
"If there is no urgent activity outside, do not leave the house. Worried about extreme weather, especially in Malang City there are many trees. If there is no urgent matter, it is better to stay at home," he reminded.
Then, his party is also wary of areas that are not advantageous in terms of elevation, contour when the rainy season arrives. So his party appealed to the public to secure important letters, motor vehicles, and electronics at the highest point.
"In addition, they must also be able to map gathering points, evacuation points, and priorities, including toddlers, the elderly, vulnerable groups, sick people, this must be the main concern," explained Prayitno.
He further said, from the analysis of the upper air in the East Java region also showed unstable and quite wet atmospheric conditions. In addition, it is estimated that there are atmospheric disturbances that cross East Java alternately.
"Such things are called Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO), Rosby Waves and Kelvin Waves. Where these conditions cause an increase in the growth of cumulonimbus clouds that have the potential to cause extreme weather in East Java," he explained.
Regarding the weather development, Prayitno said that his party provides the latest information every two minutes and even almost every minute to personnel in the tough and active sub-districts in their respective areas. "I always forward BMKG releases. So we both know the data source and its accuracy, because they are our main data source," concluded Prayitno. (say/yon)
