Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – Various impressive performances were presented by people with disabilities in Malang City in the Commemoration of the 2023 International Day of Persons with Disabilities held at the Malang Creative Center (MCC), Tuesday (5/12/2023). Various performances of movement and songs to fashion shows were displayed beautifully to captivate the audience.
Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Malang City, Erik Setyo Santoso, ST, MT expressed his emotion and pride for the various performances and achievements of the disabled who have proven that limitations are not obstacles to work. According to him, this commemoration is a momentum to strengthen the protection of the fulfillment of the rights and welfare of people with disabilities in all areas of society and development.
It was stated that the government is obliged to guarantee the survival of every citizen, including people with disabilities. Erik said that all humans have the same legal standing and basic rights to live and develop fairly and with dignity. The Malang City Government also continues to innovate in presenting various inclusive public services that can provide easy access for vulnerable groups, including the disabled.
"This is certainly our commitment in realizing equal rights for people with disabilities with various efforts to implement the principles of inclusive development. As we have held, with the Disability Musrenbang as a space to be a place to channel their participation and aspirations for the fulfillment of their rights in the discussion of the APBD every year," he said.
Not only that, Erik also invited the public to change the stigma for people with disabilities. "There must be an understanding in society that behind every deficiency there must be an advantage. People with disabilities with their limitations are also able to produce achievements and benefits for the surrounding environment," he continued.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Social Service, Women's Empowerment, Child Protection, Population Control and Family Planning (Dinsos P3AP2KB) of Malang City, Donny Sandito, S.STP, M.Si said that International Day of Persons with Disabilities which falls on December 3, 2023 this year carries the theme 'United in Action to Save and Achieve SDG's For, With and by People with Disabilities'.
"This is an event to develop the talents of the disabled. We, on behalf of the Malang City Government, also hope to always be able to fulfill the basic rights of our brothers and sisters with disabilities so that they can be more independent and sustainable in their activities and work in accordance with the theme of the commemoration carried this year," explained Donny.
Donny said, support and collaboration from all regional apparatuses in Malang City and the province, including from the private sector, also became a strength to jointly improve the standard of living of the disabled. Therefore, on the occasion of International Disability Day, a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) was also signed between the Malang City Government in this case the P3AP2KB Social Service with BLK Wonojati, BLK Singosari, and Hotel Grand Mercure Hotel Malang Mirama. This is a form of strengthening synergy between agencies to jointly improve the power and skills of the disabled.
Along with this event, assistance was also provided in the form of electric wheelchairs, standard wheelchairs, and educational aids to the disabled and awards to the disabled achievers to Athaya Putri Nirwasita who excelled in the fashion field. Awards were also given to companies that provide opportunities for the disabled to work, namely Burger Buto and Hotel Grand Mercure Malang Mirama.
"This is something extraordinary, now it is no longer us who encourage our disabled friends, but we are the ones who get the spirit and motivation from them," concluded Donny. (ari/yon)
