Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – To meet the needs of potential vegetable commodities, especially chili, the Malang City Food Security and Agriculture Service (Dispangtan) has two locations as support, namely in Lowokwaru District and Kedungkandang District. In these two districts there are rain-fed lands.

The land in Lowokwaru District is located in Merjosari Village with an area of approximately 36 hectares, with details of 20 hectares of land planted with cayenne pepper and 16 hectares planted with large chili varieties. While in Kedungkandang District there are approximately 40 hectares.
Head of the Malang City Agriculture and Food Security Agency, Slamet Husnan, on Thursday (07/12/2023) said that although the chili harvest was not yet able to meet the needs of all residents in Malang City, it was hoped that it would contribute to reducing inflation rates.
In Lowokwaru District, for a land area of 3 hectares only, Slamet said that it is estimated that it will be possible to harvest up to 270 kg of large chilies, while for cayenne pepper it can produce up to 50 kg on a land area of 2 hectares.
"The chili harvest season in both locations is different, because the time to plant chili is different. In Lowokwaru District, the planting season starts from October to November and the harvest can be done in early December, but not too much," he added.
In Kedungkandang District, Slamet said the planting period is in October-November. That period includes land preparation, land processing, preparing seeds and installing mulch along the planting medium. "The harvest is likely to be in late December 2023 or January 2024, both large and small chilies," he explained. (say/yon)
