Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Following up on the Coordination Meeting of the Malang City Traffic Management and Engineering Study with the Malang City Traffic and Road Transportation Forum (FLLAJ), Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM conducted a field review related to traffic engineering, parking points, park construction and road medians in the Kayutangan area and Jalan Semeru, Thursday (7/12/2023). This review was carried out to find solutions to reduce congestion as well as in the run-up to Christmas and New Year (Nataru) which is predicted to experience an increase in traffic flow.
Wahyu requested the demolition of the median road at the PLN and Rajabali intersection. The demolition in question is only the median separating the road and still leaving the park roundabout. "So we will reduce the median in front of PLN so that there is room for vehicle movement, especially the movement of vehicles that should not be obstructed such as ambulances and firefighters. For the clock with a safe fence, we do not tamper with it at all. We only reduce it from the existing park, so that there is room for movement. In Kayutangan we also reduced it, the median is in the middle. Later between north and south it will not be cut off. Later it will be closed with a temporary median," explained Wahyu, Thursday (7/12/2023).
Likewise with the park at the Rajabali intersection, Wahyu asked for the median road to be dismantled. "Later we will dismantle the one in Kayutangan, so it is not separated, only the roundabout in the middle. In addition, Wahyu also instructed to reduce the height of the median road in the PKK Monument area on Jalan Semeru to facilitate vehicle maneuvers there.
Relieve Congestion by Organizing Parking Points
Following up on the high traffic flow from Jalan Basuki Rahmat entering Jalan Semeru, Wahyu also requested the arrangement of a number of parking points in the Jalan Semeru area. "To reduce the congestion on Jalan Semeru because the traffic volume we saw earlier was very high. We will prohibit parking or stopping on the right side of the road to the north. All to smooth the direction to Jalan Bromo or to Jalan Semeru and Ijen. The left or south side is allowed but later the space will be limited," explained Wahyu.
Regarding the traffic jam on Jalan Semeru, the intersection of Jalan Tenes to the intersection of Jalan Bromo, according to Wahyu, it was caused by the high volume of vehicles parked on the roadside. He also instructed that there be parking control around the area.
Finally, Wahyu also requested that this traffic engineering be followed up immediately by the relevant regional apparatus. "Hopefully the congestion caused by one Kayutangan lane can be resolved immediately. We'll see how far, test cases if we try this strategy. As soon as possible, maybe next week. It will be coordinated because we are approaching Christmas and New Year," Wahyu said.
In this review, Wahyu was accompanied by the Regional Secretary of Malang City, Erik Setyo Santoso, Head of the Malang City Transportation Agency, Widjaja Saleh Putra, Head of the Malang City DLH, Noer Rahman, and related regional apparatus. (sfr/yon)
