Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The waste problem is a problem that requires collaborative solutions, including in Malang City. By collaborating with various parties, the Malang City Government (Pemkot) is working on a joint movement in handling this waste problem. This commitment is marked by the Declaration of the Collaborative Action Plan for Low Carbon Waste Management 'Kuthone Resik Rejekine Apik' at the Savana Hotel & Convention, Friday (15/12/2023).

Head of the Environmental Service (DLH) of Malang City Noer Rahman Wijaya, ST, MM said that this declaration is a form of agreement on a collaborative action plan between the Malang City Government and the community in low-carbon waste management activities in Malang City. "The tagline 'Kuthone Resik, Rejekine Apik' is the spirit of collaborative waste management in Malang City. It is hoped that this will be a joint commitment to realizing a society and environment that are clean from waste generation, including other problems related to waste," he said.
On this occasion, Rahman revealed the achievements of Malang City's waste management in 2023. Malang City's waste generation in 2023 was 778,34 tons/day or around 0,65 kg/person/day. Meanwhile, food waste has the largest share in waste generation, which is 54,39%. Meanwhile, garden waste is 13,60% and plastic waste is 13,66%.
"Until now, for 2023, the managed waste is 98,14%, leaving a waste residue of 1,86%. This year, there has also been a reduction in waste of 26,17%, and we have handled 71,97% of waste," he explained.
There is a collaborative spirit of waste management that encourages integrated waste management from upstream, intermediate, to downstream. Upstream, various programs such as Kampung Bersinar have been carried out as a form of education for the community. DLH is also trying to optimize compost and recycling sorting facilities. Then, downstream, DLH utilizes low-carbon technology for the processing and final processing of waste at the Supit Urang TPA.
Meanwhile, Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM stated that this activity is part of the commitment of the Malang City Government through the DLH to collaborate with all elements as a form of shared responsibility. He said that waste management is not only the responsibility of the government, but there is also active involvement from various elements of society to reduce waste generation in Malang City.
"The reality is that the more we go here, the higher the amount of waste, if there is no collaboration, of course this problem will not be resolved. With this declaration, it becomes a togetherness to combat waste. The community also responded well because this is indeed a form of shared responsibility. Because the impact of this waste will also have an impact on the community," he concluded. (ari/yon)
