Pocket Book Understanding Change of Voter Elections by UB Students

Pocket book l 'Understanding Moving Voters for the 2024 Election' by Brawijaya University students

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – General Election or abbreviated as election, is one of the political activities that is routinely carried out in Indonesia every five years. However, not everyone understands how important it is to use their right to vote as citizens. The high number of abstentions in society is also one of the problems in the implementation of this democratic party.

The lack of interest in participating in the election process is also influenced by technical constraints in the field, one of which is the constraint of the location of the original domicile and the process of changing votes. This is the background for three students from the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Brawijaya University to create a pocket book about the process of Changing Votes for the 2024 Election entitled 'Understanding Changing Votes for the 2024 Election'.

This book was created by Sambu Satrio Utomo together with Samuel Bintang Raka Siwi and Irham Dwi Febrianto. "This pocket book contains an explanation of the procedures and procedures that can be carried out by anyone who wants to participate in the election process outside their domicile," explained Sambu, Thursday (11/1/2024)

For someone who is living away from home, returning to their original domicile for a relatively short period of time and a fairly long distance is certainly something that needs to be considered. "Meanwhile, if they still do not meet the requirements and procedures, the person will not be able to exercise their rights if they are outside their domicile area. However, this is actually not an obstacle if the traveler carries out the existing procedures related to the process of changing their vote," explained Sambu.

This Pocket Book on Understanding Voting Changes for the 2024 Election is the result of discussions between students while completing their internship at the Malang City Bawaslu and has been approved by the Malang City Bawaslu staff. "The choice of how to most effectively disseminate information about vote-change procedures is also very important, considering that Malang City itself is a city that attracts a lot of migrants," explained this 2020 batch student.

This pocket book is intended primarily for students who are living in Malang City. However, it does not rule out the possibility for the wider community who are not in their original domicile to still use their voting rights during the election.

With this pocket book, Sambu and his group hope that migrants can better understand the procedures for changing their vote that can be accessed and viewed in the pocket book. "Moreover, at UB there are many students from outside the city or outside the island. And this pocket book can be a guide for them in the 2024 election. To facilitate distribution, we made this pocket book in digital form," he concluded. (say/yon)
