Lowokwaru (malangkota.go.id) – Malang Islamic University (Unisma) became the first destination in a series of working visits by the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ma'ruf Amin in Malang City, Friday (19/1/2024). During his visit, Ma'ruf gave a public lecture with the theme "Quo Vadis Religious Moderation in the Framework of Maintaining the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia and World Civilization".

In a public lecture attended by students, Ma'ruf emphasized the importance of religious moderation in national life. He said that religious moderation is a balance between religious life and national life, especially for Indonesia, a country blessed with differences among its people, ranging from ethnicity, religion, race, language and culture that cannot be avoided.
Ma'ruf further explained that the nation's founders had succeeded in pouring out a formulation that cemented diversity in the 1945 Constitution (UUD) and Pancasila as the basis of the state. In the future, the Indonesian government, he explained, has launched a vision of golden Indonesia 2045. In realizing this vision, national unity based on religious harmony is an absolute prerequisite.
"This is where the role of religious moderation plays a key role in ensuring that all programs and work plans can be implemented optimally," explained Ma'ruf.
He added that efforts to maintain the unity of the Indonesian nation are not solely the responsibility of the government, but are the responsibility of all components of this nation, one of which is the world of education.

Strengthening religious moderation is very important, because the world of education is the most effective medium for transferring values and knowledge to the younger generation.
"Therefore, Unisma as an Islamic-based campus is at the forefront in forming the character of the moderate young generation with the concept of wasathiyyah Islam," added Ma'ruf.
Ma'ruf also specifically gave directions to Unisma, including to continue to improve academic quality to be in line with strengthening faith and piety, strengthening the practice of religious moderation that has been running well, and asking all components of the nation to maintain tolerance, harmony, unity, and social harmony as characteristics of Indonesia in the international world.
On this occasion, Ma'ruf, who was accompanied by the Deputy Governor of East Java, Emil Dardak, along with the Chancellor of Unisma Prof. Maskuri, signed the inscription for the inauguration of the Unisma Start Up of Education Center, which is a start-up center utilized by the Unisma academic community, as a manifestation of Unisma's plan to become an entrepreneur campus as stated in the 2023-2027 milestone.
