Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – As an effort to strengthen the digital literacy level of the community, the Malang City Communication and Information Service (Diskominfo) held a Journalism and Citizen Reporter Training at the Ijen Suite Resort and Convention Malang, Wednesday (24/1/2024).

Head of Malang City Communication and Information Office, Muhammad Nur Widianto, S.Sos said the lack of interest in reading at the community level resulted in minimal validation of information on news that would be published. This, he explained, also contradicts the code of ethics of journalism.
"In line with this, the existence of wise journalists is very much needed as the shaper of the mainstream of opinion and discourse in society," explained Widianto.
Widianto also mentioned that this training was attended by 208 participants who were the result of aspirations from the community from 57 Sub-districts conveyed in the Development Planning Deliberation (Musrenbang) who wanted journalism training for citizen reporters. Therefore, his party appreciates the community's wishes, because according to him this is proof that the community currently has the desire to create good journalistic works.
"We really appreciate this because from there we understand that there is a desire from the public to create good narratives or content," he said.
He explained that the development of current technology also supports the progress of citizen journalism products. This is proven by the increasing number of content creators in society, including in Malang City. Therefore, this training is also carried out as an effort to support the people of Malang City in introducing the potential of their region in interesting social media content.
"Therefore, we answer the aspirations of the community not only by holding journalism training, but also social media management, photography, gadget security," he explained.
Related to these efforts, Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM., appreciated the steps taken by the Communication and Information Service in improving the community's ability to create journalistic products. Wahyu said that currently content creators have become a common profession and are in demand by the community. He hopes that with the training held by the Communication and Information Service, the people of Malang City will have the ability to produce good journalistic works.
"This journalism training is needed so that it can direct society in a positive direction (in working). Hopefully what is conveyed will be in accordance with ethics and will not be negative," he concluded. (iu/yul)
