Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Food Security and Agriculture Service (Dispangtan) distributed aid to 99 fish farmers at the Grand Mercure Malang Mirama Hotel, Malang City, Monday (5/2/2024). The aid worth IDR 9 million for each farmer includes catfish seeds, nets, fish feed and a set of iron frame tarpaulin pond equipment.
After symbolically handing over the aid, Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM said that the training and aid were provided to empower and improve the income and quality of life of the farmers.
In addition, Wahyu said that this program is also to overcome land limitations for urban residents and increase the amount of fish consumption by the community. "When fish consumption by the community is high, it will also help suppress or prevent cases of stunting and suppress the rate of inflation," he added.
He explained that so far, especially in Malang City, one of the triggers for high inflation is the high and scarce fish stock. "Therefore, we help and continue to encourage the productivity of this fish," Wahyu continued.
"This program is so that there can be an increase in fish productivity in Malang City. So even though there are land limitations, farmers can use this tarpaulin. Then secondly, later from this training when farmers can implement it, there will be an increase in the quality of skills of these farmers by cultivating freshwater fish," he explained.
Until now in Malang City there are around 700 freshwater fish farmers, 97 percent of whom have received assistance and training like this. After this training there is special assistance from Dispangtan. "Hopefully, later on reliable and competitive fish farmers will be born," concluded Wahyu. (say/yon)
