Kedungkandang (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Government (Pemkot) through the Food Security and Agriculture Service (Dispangtan) again carried out vaccination activities for Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) on livestock, Monday (26/2/2024). This vaccination continues to be intensified to maintain the status of Malang City so that it remains free of FMD and to support the central government's program, namely Indonesia Free of FMD by 2035. Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM had the opportunity to directly vaccinate a cow owned by Purnomo, a resident of RW I, Tlogowaru Village, Kedungkandang District.

"We have already done vaccination, and in the first quarter we have completed 700 cattle since last January. So far, in Malang City there have been no findings of FMD cases. This is indeed an anticipatory step so that there is no spread. This vaccination is free from Dispangtan," explained Wahyu.
The Acting Mayor of Malang also appealed to farmers to continue to monitor the health of their livestock. "You can consult if there are FMD symptoms in livestock. Continue to provide vitamins, routine injections are still carried out so that FMD does not spread. The livestock feed must also be maintained," he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Malang City Dispangtan Slamet Husnan Hariadi, SP said that in Malang City until now there have been no FMD cases. In 2022, cases were found and three livestock died. However, the government provided compensation of ten million rupiah per head. "Therefore, farmers are advised to provide vaccinations, they can contact the Dispangtan for Animal Husbandry, it's free. If to anticipate from outside, every animal traffic must also be accompanied by a health certificate," explained Slamet.
The FMD vaccination service for livestock also received a good response and appreciation from the owner of the Purnomo cattle farm. He expressed his gratitude for the vaccination service provided. In addition, Dispangtan also provided livestock vitamins. "There are seven cows, with one calf. Three cows produce milk. Thank you, hopefully the cows are healthy so that milk production will also increase," he said.
Purnomo said that in one day, the three dairy cows he owns can produce 25 liters of milk which is sold for around Rp. 10.000,00 to Rp. 12.000,00.
For information, Dispangtan targets in the first quarter of 2024 the target for livestock vaccination (cows, buffaloes, goats and sheep) in Malang City is 800 doses with details in January 300 doses, February 200 doses, and March 300 doses. The vaccination achievement until February 14, 2024 was 704 livestock with details of 325 cows, 30 buffaloes, 220 goats, and 129 sheep.
From the available data, the livestock population in Malang City is recorded as 1.463 beef cattle, 309 dairy cattle, 97 buffaloes, 1.559 goats, 332 sheep, 179.300 layer chickens, 885.000 broiler chickens. From this population, the potential livestock output in Malang City is 22.209 tons of meat/year, 2.217 tons of eggs/year, and 421 tons of milk/year. (ari/yon)
