Lowokwaru (malangkota.go.id) – When moderate to high intensity rain pours down on Malang City, it causes puddles and flooding in several areas. One of them is in the Soekarno Hatta Street area which is now the concern of the Malang City Government (Pemkot), in this case the Department of Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing, and Settlement Areas (DPUPRPKP). Therefore, handling steps must be taken immediately to provide comfort for residents and road users.

The Malang City Government has submitted a budget of Rp50 billion to the East Java Provincial Government (Pemprov Jatim). This step is a solution to overcome the flood problem that has often hit the area in the Lowokwaru sub-district.
These are some of the things conveyed by the Head of DPUPRPKP Malang City, Dandung Djulharjanto, Saturday (2/3/2024). The amount of the proposed budget will not only be for the construction of culverts, but also for the expansion of the pedestrian area.
"The length will start from the front of the Bakso Damas outlet to the Suhat Bridge. So it will be approximately 1,8 kilometers long. So it will divert from three secondary channels, namely Purwantoro, Blimbing, and Lowokwaru to remove the impact. This is to overcome flooding in Kedawung, Ciliwung, including in Purwodadi," explained Dandung.
This effort, he said, is in accordance with the authority and responsibility given to the East Java Provincial Government regarding road infrastructure at the provincial level. "We have proposed the budget submission to the East Java Provincial Government since the beginning of the Acting Mayor of Malang's term of office, which was around October 2023," said Dandung.
This submission proposal, after being approved, will be included in the priority program of the East Java Provincial Government in 2024. So it is estimated that the implementation of the project work will begin in 2025. (say/yon)
