Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – Malang City hosted the final round of the I Discovered Maths and Science Competition (ID-MEC) Vol.3, Saturday (2/3/2024). After previously being held in Surabaya and Samarinda, 2024 will be the third time this national-level math and science competition has been held.

Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM really appreciates the various competitions that will certainly create a quality and competitive generation of the nation's successors. "Currently, we are indeed in an era full of competitiveness in all fields. So it is a necessity to form reliable human resources. One way is by participating in competitions like this to be able to measure abilities and can be capital to have a competitive spirit," he said.
Wahyu assessed that a competition event like ID-MEC is a form of support to improve the quality of education in Indonesia. Moreover, in 2030, Indonesia will experience a demographic bonus and has the ambition to achieve Indonesia Emas 2045.
"Of course, the ideals depend on the quality of our young generation. This event is expected to be a place for our children to show their talents and abilities in mathematics and science. Hopefully, the ID-MEC event can be a motivation for students to continue learning and achieving so that they can bring the nation's name to the international arena," he concluded.
The competition was attended by a total of 561 participants from elementary to junior high school levels from various regions in Indonesia. Furthermore, there were 83 participants competing in the final round held at the Harris Hotel and Conventions Malang. Accompanied by the Head of the Malang City Education and Culture Office (Disdikbud) Suwarjana, SE, MM, Wahyu presented awards to nine participants who won the Gold Award. (ari/yon)
