Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM gave extraordinary appreciation for the implementation of the National Chess Tournament for the Chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) of Malang City which was held at the Malang Creative Center (MCC) Building in Malang City, Saturday (9/3/2024). This was captured when the number one person in the Malang City Government opened the national tournament which competed in several categories and was participated by various age groups, from children to seniors.
Acting Mayor of Malang Wahyu Hidayat said that this championship is an excellent platform to evaluate the development of chess athletes in Malang City directly.
"I am sure that participating in a national event like this will be very useful to directly monitor the quality of chess players in Malang City, and prepare them for future competitions," said Wahyu.
According to him, the presence of this tournament is also very important, considering that Malang City will host the 2025 Provincial Sports Week (Porprov). This can also be a moment to measure the progress of Malang City chess players who will appear.
In addition, it is hoped that this championship will bring out new talents in the sport of chess and test the effectiveness of the coaching carried out by the Malang City Percasi to produce potential chess players.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of KONI Malang City, Djoni Sudjatmoko, emphasized that the holding of this national chess tournament is not only aimed at improving the achievements of the chess branch, but also to revive sports tourism in Malang City.
"With the presence of athletes from various regions, we hope to increase tourist visits to Malang City. Therefore, we designed this tournament as an interesting entertainment, with the hope of increasing the spirit of chess players and their supporters to compete in Malang City," said Djoni. (cah/yon)
