Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM together with related staff reviewed the repair process of the collapsed embankment on Jalan Terusan Tanjung Putra Yuda V RW 9, Tanjungrejo Village, Sukun District, Malang City, Saturday (9/3/2024).

For information, previously on Tuesday (5/3/2024) the nine-meter high and 50-meter long embankment collapsed and caused the irrigation flow to be blocked and six residents' houses were affected.
During this review, the Acting Mayor of Malang was accompanied by the Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Malang City, the Head of the Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing and Residential Areas Agency (DPUPRPKP), and the Head of the Communication and Informatics Agency (Kominfo) of Malang City.
"When the incident was reported by BPBD, KadisPUPRPKP, and Sukun Sub-district Head, we monitored it. Now I see the progress. Currently, the normalization of the embankment is being carried out by DPUPRPKP, and there has been assistance for affected residents," he explained.
For the repair of this embankment, the number one person in the Malang City Government said that the East Java Provincial SDA Service had collaborated and come down to help repair the embankment.
Wahyu said he knew exactly that a landslide had occurred at this location, because when he was on duty at the Malang Regency Irrigation Service about seven years ago, he had inspected the location.
"Given its length and width, the construction of the embankment is estimated to take about three months. During this process, we urge residents not to occupy the area for safety reasons," Wahyu said.
"With this incident, hopefully residents will be more aware. This is proof, the closer to the embankment, the more vulnerable it will be," he said again.
As an anticipatory measure, in the meantime, in addition to repairing the embankment, residents are also asked to provide a distance between their residential buildings and the embankment, namely by providing a distance of around two meters.
"We will find the best solution. For now, residents should not approach because it will affect the strength of the retaining wall structure that is being repaired," he concluded. (cah/yon)
