Kedungkandang (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Food Security and Agriculture Service (Dispangtan) in collaboration with various parties is again holding the Cheap Food Movement (GPM) starting today, Monday (18/3/2024). Photographed in Polehan Village, Blimbing District, the enthusiasm of the community is very high as seen from the long queue since the morning before the GPM began.

Head of Food Security Division of Malang City Food and Agriculture Service, Elfiatur Roikhah, said that the Cheap Food Movement in Polehan Village is an effort by the Malang City Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) to provide basic food needs for the community at affordable prices as well as a step to stabilize the prices of basic commodities.
"Today's Cheap Food Movement is held at two points, namely in Polehan Village and Tanjungrejo Village. Each point provides five tons of rice. In addition, there is also flour, cooking oil, sugar, instant noodles, shallots, and others," explained Elfi, Monday (18/3/2024).
He explained that the GPM is an effort to control inflation, maintain price stability, food supply during March 2024, and this is an anticipation of panic buying due to the increase in the price of basic necessities during Ramadan and ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2024.
This Cheap Food Movement is a collaboration between the Agriculture Service with the National Food Agency (Bapanas), Bulog, Perumda Tugu Aneka Usaha (Perumda Tunas), and Bank Indonesia.
In March 2024, GPM will be implemented in ten locations in sub-districts in Malang City, namely in Polehan, Tanjungrejo, Tlogomas, Lesanpuro, Kasin, Purwantoro, Sawojajar, Lowokwaru, Kebonsari, and Rampal Celaket Sub-districts.
One of the residents of Polehan Village, Aliyah, admitted that she was happy with the existence of this cheap food movement. According to her, this GPM really helps the community to be able to buy basic necessities at affordable prices.
"Alhamdulillah today I can buy 10kg of rice for Rp110.000. - Hopefully activities like this will be held often, so we can buy basic necessities at a cheaper price, because in the market the price keeps going up, not down," said Aliyah. (cah/yon)
