Customers Continue to Increase, PT KAI Reminds of Baggage Regulations

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI) Operational Area (Daop) 8 Surabaya reminds prospective passengers regarding their carry-on items or baggage to comply with applicable regulations.

Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Daop 8 Surabaya, Luqman Arif, Sunday (7/4/2024) explained that customers are allowed to bring baggage without being charged a fee with a maximum weight of 20 kg and a maximum volume of 100 dm3 with maximum dimensions of 70 x 48 x 30 cm and a maximum of four packages (baggage items).

"If when boarding at the station, customers are found to be carrying baggage that exceeds the provisions, they will be charged a fee of IDR 10.000/kg for executive class, IDR 6.000/kg for business class, and IDR 2.000/kg for economy class," he explained.

KAI provides luggage racks above the seats to store customers' belongings/luggage, or in other places that do not disturb or endanger other customers, and do not cause damage to train facilities.

"Luggage weighing more than 200 dm3 (70 x 48 x 60 cm) is not allowed to be carried into the train cabin. Customers will be advised to transport their goods using train expedition services such as KAI Logistik," explained Luqman.

Meanwhile, items that are prohibited from being carried as baggage include animals, narcotics, psychotropic drugs and other addictive substances, firearms/sharp weapons, flammable/explosive objects, objects that smell bad/fishy or objects that due to their nature can disturb/damage the health and disturb the comfort of other passengers.

Items prohibited by law and regulations, and other items which, in the opinion of the boarding officer, are not appropriate to be transported as baggage due to their condition and size.

As an appeal to prospective customers regarding baggage rules, KAI will provide information via SMS or WhatsApp services to prospective customers before the day of departure. This is to create comfort for customers and not cause disappointment regarding baggage rules.

"With this socialization and notification, we hope that all customers will comply with the baggage rules when using train services, so that a safe, secure, comfortable, cheerful and meaningful homecoming trip is created," he concluded. (say/yon)
