Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM officially opened the 2024 Veteran Men's Doubles Open Tournament held by the Indonesian Lawn Tennis Association (PELTI) of Malang City at the Gajayana Stadium Tennis Court, Saturday (20/4/2024).
This national tennis tournament is competing for the Acting Mayor of Malang Cup with a total prize of Rp26 million for the two categories being competed, namely Age Group (KU) 100 with a minimum age of 40 years and KU 123 with a minimum age of 58 years.
"I appreciate the tournament which is a series of events to commemorate the 110th anniversary of Malang City. Hopefully, by holding this tournament, it can revive the spirit and achievements of Malang City in the field of tennis," Wahyu hoped.
Wahyu also conveyed a welcome and good luck to all participants who came from various regions in Indonesia. The number one person in the Malang City Government advised to continue to uphold sportsmanship during the match. According to him, winning or losing is not the main thing, the most important thing is brotherhood forever.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of PELTI Malang City who is also the Head of Bunulrejo Village, Mirza Ronald Adi Saputra, said that the purpose of this tournament was not only to commemorate the 110th anniversary of Malang City, but also to revive and elevate the world of tennis in Malang City.
"Hopefully, tennis in Malang City can be as glorious as the 70-90s, where Malang became a barometer of sports, especially tennis. Until then, there was a saying that you were not a national champion if you had never won in Malang," he said.
The 2024 Veteran Men's Doubles Open Tournament will take place from Saturday (20/4/2024) to Sunday (21/4/2024). The number of participants in this tournament is 76 pairs of players or 152 athletes who come from all over Indonesia, both Java and outside Java such as Pontianak, Samarinda, Banjarnegara, Kutai Kertanegara and even from Malaysia.
