Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Environmental Service (DLH) in collaboration with the Malang City PKK Task Force (TP) distributed a total of 13 tons of compost fertilizer to five sub-districts in Malang City, 110 greening seedlings, 110 productive tree seedlings and laboratory tests of ten wastewater samples for the public.

Acting Chairperson of TP PKK Malang City Dra. Hj. Hanik Andriani Wahyu Hidayat symbolically handed over compost fertilizer and tree seedlings to beneficiaries at the Supit Urang Final Disposal Site (TPA)

Acting Chairperson of the Malang City PKK TP Dra. Hj. Hanik Andriani Wahyu Hidayat accompanied by the Assistant for Economy and Development of the Malang City Regional Secretariat, Diah Ayu Kusuma Dewi, MT and the Head of the Environmental Service (DLH), Noer Rahman Wijaya, ST, MM symbolically handed over compost fertilizer and tree seedlings to beneficiaries at the Supit Urang Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Malang City, Thursday (25/4/2024).

"This is a form of synergy between the Environmental Service and the Malang City PKK TP as a government working partner. For all people to realize a green, cool, beautiful and of course healthy Malang City environment for us all," said the Acting Chairperson of the Malang City PKK TP.

Meanwhile, the Assistant for Economy and Development of the Malang City Regional Secretariat, Diah Ayu Kusuma Dewi, representing the Acting Mayor of Malang, said that the synergy and collaboration between the Malang City DLH and the Malang City TP PKK is a form of implementation of the theme of the Malang City Anniversary in Harmony for a Classy Malang City.

"Mr. Acting Mayor of Malang expressed his positive appreciation for the implementation of activities that can strengthen our commitment to implementing environmental protection and management in Malang City. From these PKK mothers, the dasawisma is running, its strength is extraordinary," explained Diah.

The amount of waste managed at the Supit Urang TPA is 505 tons/day and it is possible that the quantity can increase. Of course this is not a small amount, so efforts are needed in its management. In Supit Urang itself, it has managed waste and turned it into compost through 4 modern mechanisms with a production capacity of 30 tons per month. In addition, there are currently 18 recycling compost sorting houses spread across five sub-districts in Malang City.

"Compost provides many benefits, including improving soil quality, making the soil loose, making plant roots grow easily and being one of the solutions in managing organic waste effectively," he explained.

Through the delivery of compost fertilizer and plant seeds, this is the first step in realizing a green and beautiful Malang city as well as to strengthen community food security. In addition, compost fertilizer making training is also expected to increase community knowledge and skills in processing organic waste into useful fertilizers.

"Hopefully in the future this collaboration can be further strengthened. For example, if sorting organic and non-organic waste from home can be done, it will make our collaboration even stronger because the waste that goes to the TPA and TPS has been sorted, a small but extraordinary step. This is also relevant to the theme of Regional Autonomy Day 2024 which is commemorated today, namely 'Sustainable Regional Autonomy Towards a Green Economy and a Healthy Environment,'" he concluded.
