Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – The Class IIA Malang Women's Penitentiary held an event titled 'Binar Asmaraloka Karya' in the prison area located in the Sukun Malang area, Wednesday (24/4/2024). On this occasion, the correctional inmates (WBP) and also prison employees showed off their skills by modeling batik clothing and creative clothing which were the work of the inmates.

They strutted on stage like professional models. Occasionally, cheers were heard from other inmates because of their attractive appearance.
When met on the sidelines of the event, Head of Class IIA Malang Prison Yunengsih said that this event was held to welcome the 60th anniversary of Correctional Service Day which is commemorated every April 27 and to commemorate Kartini Day which is commemorated every April 21.
Various food products, drinks and works of inmates such as meatballs, batik and kopiah are also exhibited and sold in the event area. From events like this, Yunengsih said that they want to provide a sense of joy, cheerfulness and confidence to inmates.
"That way, they will be more empowered and more productive, especially after they return to society, they will no longer be looked down upon, which will also eliminate the negative stigma of former convicts," added the woman in the hijab.
From this activity, Head of Prison Yunengsih said that even though the inmates are behind bars, they can still work and produce various products that have economic value. Until now, the number of inmates at Sukun Women's Prison is 433 people and of this number there are three toddlers and six foreign citizens.
The event, which was held in the month of Syawal, was also a moment for halalbihalal, gathering with stakeholders and other parties who had helped, both in fostering independence and personality.
Positive appreciation was conveyed by the Expert Staff for Law, Government and Politics of the Malang City Regional Secretariat, Tabrani SH., M.Hum. Representing the Acting Mayor of Malang, Tabrani praised the appearance and creativity of the products of the inmates.
"The coaching and provision of skills in this prison is very good, so that the inmates can produce various superior products and have high sales value. Hopefully in the future it can be improved and the results of the creations will be even better," continued Tabrani. (say/yon)
