Commemorating the 28th Regional Autonomy Day, Commitment to Realizing a Green Economy

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The Commemoration Ceremony of Regional Autonomy Day (Otoda) XXVIII in Malang City was held in the front yard of Malang City Hall, Thursday (25/4/2024). The Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Malang City Erik Setyo Santoso, ST, MT acted as the inspector of the commemoration ceremony which raised the theme 'Sustainable Regional Autonomy Towards a Green Economy and a Healthy Environment'.

Erik said that according to the explanation of the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) of the Republic of Indonesia, the theme was chosen to strengthen the commitment, responsibility, and awareness of all levels of local government towards the task of building sustainability in the management of natural resources and the environment at the local level and promoting an environmentally friendly economic model to create a sustainable future for future generations.

"On the 28th Regional Autonomy Day, more emphasis is placed on how regional autonomy focuses on sustainable development that leads to a green economy and a healthier environment," he explained.

Furthermore, Erik explained that regional autonomy policies are also designed to achieve two main objectives including, for welfare and democracy purposes. In terms of welfare objectives, decentralization is directed to provide public services for the community effectively, efficiently, and economically through various government policy innovations that emphasize the uniqueness of the region concerned (endogenous development) as well as the wise and sustainable utilization of natural resource potential. In terms of democracy objectives, decentralization policies become an instrument of political education at the local level that accelerates the realization of civil society.

"Of course, from this emphasis, the regional development plan is certainly adjusted to the emphasis on regional autonomy. What is the theme this year will also color the Regional Government Work Plan (RKPD) for 2025 which is currently being completed. So that the direction of development like this is synergized with local characteristics and primary needs that are currently the concern of every regional government including Malang City," he explained.

Furthermore, Erik explained that the green economy directs development not only on physical matters, maximum energy absorption, reducing poverty but also directs all development steps by paying attention to the environment so that it remains sustainable in the future. "That is why economic development is not only for the next one or two years, but development must have an emphasis on green insight. So all our development must have an environmental insight that is inseparable from its implementation," continued Erik.

In addition, Erik also mentioned the importance of renewable energy in today's life. "How do we not only rely on energy sources that we have known so far, but also other alternative energy sources. Like the current use of electric vehicles, solar cells or sunlight sources. This is also still related to the green economy, how our resources are not focused on current sources but the use of other alternatives so that future generations can still survive and hopefully can manage them better," he explained.

The Regional Secretary of Malang City said that his party would also adjust official vehicles whose use utilizes alternative energy sources. He said that the central government had also issued a Presidential instruction regarding the acceleration of the implementation of the program for the use of battery-based electric motor vehicles (battery electric vehicles) as operational official vehicles. "Currently, we are still including it in the procurement plan, it has not been realized. Because we are also waiting for the supporting infrastructure, including the charging points. We are coordinating for the provision of electric car charging points," he concluded. (ari/yon)
