Gathering Together, ADGI Tells the Story of Collaboration Built with the Government

Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – The Indonesian Graphic Designers Association (ADGI) Malang Chapter held a gathering and discussion activity with Malang Raya designers in an event entitled Re-Shape ADGI Malang at Indigo Space Kayutangan, Friday night (3/4/2024).

Present as keynote speakers were the General Chairperson of ADGI Center Ritchie Ned Hansel, the Chairperson of ADGI Malang Chapter Dimas Fakhruddin, the Secretary General of ADGI Center Muhammad Immadudin, the Program Manager of ADGI Malang Chapter Rezza Alam Islami, and moderated by the Advisory Board of ADGI Malang Chapter Fariz Rizky W.

On this occasion, the speakers shared ADGI's vision and mission, its various work programs, both ADGI Pusat and ADGI Malang, to the collaborative ecosystem that has been built with the government in creating and shaping a strong visual identity of Indonesia.

"ADGI's vision is twofold. First, the creation of a healthy, even graphic design industry ecosystem, so that designers in various regions in Indonesia have the same opportunity, can work professionally and contribute to the country to the maximum. Second, forming a strong visual identity of Indonesia domestically and internationally so that it can improve Indonesia's image in various sectors," explained the General Chairperson of ADGI Center, Ritchie Ned Hansel.

ADGI is a membership-based organization consisting of Indonesian professionals in the field of graphic design. Three missions which are ADGI's basic commitments are the reference for activities to achieve ADGI's grand vision.

"ADGI's three missions are to Protect, Serve and Advance. First, to protect each individual who joins as a member to ensure that they can work professionally. Second, to serve by prioritizing the potential of professional human resources in the field of graphic design through one of the ADGI Hub business unit programs with the intention of becoming a bridge between ADGI members and government agencies," explained Ritchie.

The third mission is to advance by increasing the solidarity of Indonesian graphic designers by developing chapters nationally. Where until now there are six ADGI branch chapters spread across various cities, namely Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Malang and Makasar. Ritchie shared the story of how ADGI has impacted the graphic design industry in recent times including through its programs.

"One of the ADGI Hub programs that brings together the government with graphic designers. Where the achievements of the ADGI Hub program include the BEKRAFT logo which opened the way to meet the government at that time, the 2018 Asian Games, the Indonesian Independence Day logo starting from the 71st Indonesian Independence Day, the G20 logo, ASEAN Indonesia 2023, to the IKN logo," he explained.

From ADGI's journey and its outputs, it can be seen that it has an impact on the industry, the graphic designer profession and society. Ritchie said that Malang City has extraordinary potential, where one of the finalists for the IKN logo is a Malang youth, from 500 portfolios his work was able to enter the finals.

ADGI Chapter Malang Chairman, Dimas Fakhruddin, who is one of the finalists for the IKN logo, said that the collaboration with the Malang City Government (Pemkot) has resulted in the birth of the Malang City mascot, namely Osi and Ji. Where Osi the lion and Ji the weaver bird as the selected mascots born through the competition process are expected to be an effective communication media to support the orderly arrangement of Malang City, development of potential and representation of a positive image for Malang City.

"Then the latest is the logo of the 110th Anniversary of Malang City. The collaboration between the Malang City Government and ADGI Chapter Malang is the third year of collaboration since the 108th, 109th and 110th Anniversary," said Dimas.

Furthermore, he conveyed several ADGI Chapter Malang programs including Kumpul Obek which initiated the spirit of ADGI Malang, where they gathered and discussed together regarding trending issues. Other programs that will be worked on in the future such as the Malang Raya Designer & Studio Database, Collective event and roadmap, Malang design wave, to Discovery talent (workshop, portfolio review, studio visit). ADGI Malang which has been established since 2013, one of the programs that will be developed in the future is the Rebranding of Malang City. (yul/yon)
