Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The Open Gateball Tournament of the Acting Mayor of Malang Cup was held at the Mini Soccer Field of the Gajayana Stadium, Malang City, Saturday (18/5/2024) to Sunday (19/5/2024).
Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM said that this tournament was an event to introduce gateball, which is a new sport. Wahyu also appreciated the gateball sport of Malang City which won a gold medal at the 2023th East Java Provincial Sports Week (Porprov Jatim) in XNUMX.
"This also introduces gateball as a new sport. But it is extraordinary for Malang City, because in the Porprov in Sidoarjo yesterday we won first place and got gold for the gateball sport. Of course we must support and encourage so that the achievements that have been achieved by Malang City gateball can be even better," said Wahyu.
The Malang Acting Mayor's Cup Gateball Tournament was attended by 79 teams from seven provinces originating from 14 districts/cities competing in three categories, namely the 50 years and above category, namely the team team and the triple team, and the 20 years and under triple team.
"This tournament is to find seeds that we will later send to represent Malang City. Moreover, this is not only a local competition but also a national competition, there are seven provinces participating. We must support this so that gateball athletes from Malang City can compete more," he said.
Gateball sports have two organizations that oversee them, namely KONI and KORMI. "For achievements, KONI will, and for recreation we will include it in KORMI. This is interesting because it is also part of sport tourism, so this is good. Not only achievements are obtained but there can also be recreation in sports," he concluded. (yul/yon)
