Acting Mayor Invites to Introduce Malang City's Potential Through Social Media

Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Communication and Informatics Agency (Diskominfo) held a Social Media Processing Training for the Community at the Grand Mercure Malang Mirama Hotel, Wednesday (22/5/2024). Based on data from Digital 2024: Global Overview Digital Report, it was recorded that as of January 2024, 60,4 percent of Indonesia's population were social media users. Therefore, social media users must have the skills to utilize it.

Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM said that this training is also a response to community proposals in the Development Planning Deliberation (Musrenbang) which is held every year. This training is tailored to the community's desire to gain skills and knowledge to process social media better.

"Social media is important because it can direct people to be positive, but it can also lead to negative. Of course, this depends on how wisely and wisely they use it," said Wahyu.

Through this activity, it is hoped that it can provide provisions for participants that there are ethics and rules in using social media. "Don't let using social media continue to have a negative impact and harm yourself. I hope they can also spread and invite others to behave positively in social media," he continued.

On this occasion, Wahyu invited participants to create various social media content by displaying various potentials of Malang City that can be enjoyed by the wider public. "We also hope that the public will support by creating positive content that can introduce the potential of Malang City," he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Head of Malang City Communication and Information Service, M. Nur Widianto, S.Sos encouraged the public, especially social media activists, to understand the importance of social media so that they can use it more effectively.

"Hopefully they can understand how to use social media wisely. Not just hunting for speed in sharing content without thinking about the impact of its publication. So don't let our social media fall apart," he said.

In line with the Acting Mayor, the Head of the Communication and Information Office also said that with social media skills, the government can also be helped to broadcast the potential of Malang City. "If we only rely on the government, it will certainly be difficult. Friends also have many networks, closer to their environment. If we move together, Malang City, Malang City products, and its tourism potential will also be better known," he concluded.

Approximately 180 participants attended the first stage of social media processing training, five of whom were disabled. Present as a resource person was the Head of the Malang Youtuber Community, Faris Montis. (ari/yon)
