Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – 15 young writers from Smart Houses in all sub-districts of Malang City have successfully produced a biography of the Acting Mayor of Malang, Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM. The writing of this biography is the result of the Gelis Maca (Reading Community Literacy Movement) program initiated by the Public Library and Regional Archives Service (Dispussipda) of Malang City.
The work of the young writers entitled 'From Rotterdam to Malang City' was then directly submitted to the Acting Mayor of Malang at the Ngalam Command Center (NCC) Malang City Hall, Monday (10/6/2024).
After receiving the biography, Wahyu expressed his highest appreciation and gratitude to the 15 young writers who managed to produce their best works. For him, the process of making the biography was a unique and enjoyable experience, especially when interacting and discussing directly with the writers.
"So I had a discussion with these young writers. They asked questions and then they told stories. Alhamdulillah they were guided and coached, also supported by one of the printing houses that successfully produced my biographical work 'From Rotterdam to Malang City'," he explained.
Wahyu hopes that the biography will not only be documentation, but also a form of appreciation for the entire Malang City community who always support and provide inspiration in every step he takes in carrying out his mandate as Acting Mayor of Malang.
"Hopefully, this writing can be a reference and inspiration. In addition, it can also provide benefits and positive contributions to the progress of Malang City that we love together," said Wahyu.
On that occasion, Wahyu also expressed his appreciation for the implementation of the Gelis Maca program which is a breakthrough in increasing reading interest among the people of Malang City. According to him, increasing reading interest in the community will also affect the quality of Human Resources (HR) of Malang City.
"I hope this activity can be a momentum that rekindles the spirit of reading among the people of Malang City. Which of course will go hand in hand with the increasing quality of human resources (HR) in Malang City," he added.
Head of the Public Library and Regional Archives Service of Malang City, Ir. Yayuk Hermiati, MH, said that in 2024, the Malang City Public Library and Archives Service will strive to overcome the low interest in reading among the community, especially in the outskirts of Malang City, through the Gelis Maca program in smart homes.
Gelis Maca is an innovation in building policy synergy between stakeholders, namely the government, universities, entrepreneurs and the community to work together to improve the quality and capacity of human resources including managers of Smart Houses and their librarians. The development and management of Smart Houses on the outskirts of the city is aimed at optimizing the reading interest index of the people of Malang City.
"Gelis Maca is an innovation that is expected to be an innovative policy and able to solve problems related to the still low reading interest index in society, especially those living in the suburbs," he concluded. (iu/yul)
