Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – Ahead of the National Religious Holiday (HBKN) Eid al-Adha which falls on June 17, 2024, the Malang City Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) held a High Level Meeting (HLM) at the Grand Mercure Malang Mirama Hotel, Tuesday (11/6/2024).
Acting Mayor of Malang, Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat MM who directly led the meeting said that in accordance with the direction of the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri), the Malang City TPID is expected to continue to monitor the rate of several commodities that are predicted to soar ahead of Eid al-Adha, one of which is the red onion commodity.
Wahyu said that the Malang City TPID has successfully responded to the directive and anticipated the price increase by conducting inter-regional cooperation (KAD) with Probolinggo Regency as one of the producers of shallots in East Java. This has been proven to be able to suppress the rate of selling prices in the market and is able to maintain the stability of the inflation rate in Malang City.
"Alhamdulillah, from several categories presented by the Minister of Home Affairs, we are included in the safe category. This is because we have carried out inter-regional cooperation (KAD) with Probolinggo. We anticipated, about two weeks ago we bought and distributed it in markets and finally this could suppress the selling price in Malang City," he explained.
In addition, Wahyu also revealed that the inflation rate in Malang City is currently well controlled. Based on the release of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Malang City early last month, Malang City experienced deflation of -0,08% in the month-to-month inflation rate in May 2024. Despite experiencing deflation, Wahyu reminded the Malang City TPID to always be vigilant and continue to monitor the fluctuating inflation rate.
"Although it is currently deflation, we will continue to monitor its fluctuations. We will intervene, including checking with Bulog and the market for other commodities is quite safe. Currently we are focusing on controlling inflation ahead of Eid al-Adha tomorrow so that there is no increase that is too high," said Wahyu.
Several programs as short-term breakthroughs by the Malang City TPID in controlling inflation that were agreed upon in this High Level Meeting include the Inflation Care School, Inflation Care Office, and Sepasar Pedas which are collaborated by increasing
Traders' knowledge of inflation. These programs will continue to be strengthened so that inflation in Malang City remains under control. (iu/yul)
