Promote Chili Planting as an Effort to Control Inflation
Malang City – Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM together with the Malang City Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) planted chilies on land covering an area of approximately 3.500 square meters owned by the Malang City Government (Pemkot) in the Bumiayu Village area, Kedungkandang, Malang City, Saturday (15/6/2024).

Wahyu explained that the chili planting movement was carried out as an effort to maintain and increase the production of food commodities and control inflation in Malang City, especially ahead of Eid al-Adha 1445 Hijriah which falls on June 17, 2024. Previously, it was conveyed in the weekly coordination meeting (rakor) for controlling regional inflation held by the Indonesian Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), that chili commodities were predicted to experience a price spike, so that chili planting activities were carried out as an anticipatory measure.
"This program is indeed carried out to control inflation. By planting and harvesting, of course it can increase the amount of stock, especially approaching Eid al-Adha, it is predicted that there will be an increase in prices," he explained.
Although it is considered insufficient to meet the needs in Malang City, Wahyu considered this step very appropriate as an effort to maintain food security. In addition, he mentioned that the Malang City Government will also take steps to cooperate between regions to anticipate fluctuations in food commodity prices.
"There is indeed limited land in Malang City and chili production is not comparable to demand. To anticipate this, we are cooperating with regions from the Malang Raya area that can supply to prevent such a high price spike," he concluded.
