Lowokwaru (malangkota.go.id) – Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) of rattan crafts that are widely spread in the Tasikmadu Village, Lowokwaru District, are not only in demand by local consumers, but have also penetrated internationally. This was revealed when the Acting Mayor of Malang, Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM visited the craft center located on Jl. Bulutangkis, Tasikmadu Village, Sunday (16/6/2024).

After talking with the craftsmen, Wahyu admitted to being amazed by the marketing pattern which is still very conventional, namely word of mouth marketing which has succeeded in reaching the international market.
"After seeing and talking directly with the UMKM owner, it turns out that this is extraordinary, because so far the promotion and sales are still done by word of mouth based on the quality results felt by the customer. The customers are also not playing around, many hotels from Bali have ordered, and the enthusiasts are from abroad," he explained.
Capturing this potential, Wahyu said that the Malang City Government (Pemkot) is ready to provide assistance to craftsmen, such as by providing facilities, training, and also by involving MSMEs in exhibitions, both domestically and abroad as an effort to expand sales reach.
"Later we can improve their coaching so that they can provide one cadre, and then we will provide infrastructure such as shops, and no less important is promotional assistance, so that they can feel the presence of the government," he said enthusiastically.
Wahyu said after knowing the rattan craft center in the Tasikmadu area, he saw it as a potential to build a tourist village that he hopes will have a positive effect on the surrounding community. (iu/yon)
