Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Government and the Lumajang Regency Government officially established inter-regional cooperation marked by the signing of a cooperation agreement at the Malang City Hall, Friday (22/6/2024). The two regions agreed to establish synergy, one of which is as a step to control inflation.

In accordance with Law Number 23 of 2014 concerning Regional Government, it is stated that in order to improve people's welfare, regions can establish cooperation based on considerations of efficiency and effectiveness of public services. This is what underlies the Malang City Government and Lumajang Regency Government to carry out inter-regional cooperation in order to provide optimal public services, especially to ensure stable food prices and safe availability.
Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM expressed that with the well-established cooperation, he hopes that it will provide more benefits to the community in a sustainable manner. Wahyu emphasized that this is not just a signing of the cooperation, but the most important thing is how the implementation of cooperation between the two regions can be sustainable.
"Not only on paper, this cooperation must also be followed by a commitment to carry out strategic efforts for effective and efficient government affairs. Let's continue to strengthen, maintain communication and cooperation," he said.
The Acting Mayor of Malang also hopes that the cooperation that will be established is not limited to one sector, but it is hoped that both regions can see other potentials to be collaborated. "So we also invite various heads of regional devices so that we can collaborate more together," he continued.
Meanwhile, Acting Regent of Lumajang Indah Wahyuni, SH, M.Si said that her party appreciated the cooperation between regions and the Malang City Government. Indah said that Malang City is one of the barometers of governance in East Java and a destination for cooperation.
Lumajang Regency is an agricultural area and is known as a center for agricultural products, especially rice and chili. This potential encourages the Lumajang Regency Government to 'share' its agricultural products to other areas. "Usually we send a lot of our agricultural products to Surabaya. Hopefully, with this cooperation, we can also sell it to Malang City. At the same time, we strengthen synergy and collaboration to improve the economy in our area as well as to prevent inflation," he continued.
The Lumajang Regency Government hopes that this cooperation can increase economic activity and various other aspects to improve people's welfare. "Frankly, we have to learn a lot from Malang City, one of which is improving the level of education. So that later we will at least match Malang City," he concluded. (ari/yon)
