Official Statistics News (BRS) Inflation in June by the Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Malang City

Umar said that this deflation figure is lower than East Java (-0,37 percent) but higher than the national deflation (-0,08 percent). Commodities that have a large share in the decline in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) come from the food, beverage and tobacco groups.

"The main contributors to deflation in June 2024 were food, beverages and tobacco with a share of 0,37 percent. Commodities that contributed significantly to deflation were shallots, tomatoes, broiler chicken, oranges, garlic, broiler chicken eggs, red chilies, rice, chayote, and bananas," he explained.

June, which often coincides with religious holidays such as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, has many food commodities that trigger inflation. However, in June this year, commodities that previously contributed to inflation are now driving deflation in Malang City. "If we look at June in previous years, June this year is the only deflation in the last five years," he added.

Meanwhile, year to date (ytd), Malang City's inflation is 0,57 percent. "This is a combination of inflation from January to June 2024 or can be said as semester I inflation. This year, our inflation is lower than in 2023 which was 1,22 percent," he said.

Furthermore, Umar also revealed that year on year (yoy), Malang City experienced inflation of 2,02 percent lower than the previous year which was 3,65 percent. (ari/yon)
