Realizing Rice Self-Sufficiency, Dispangtan Will Develop BK 01 Rice Seeds

Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – Various efforts have been made by the Malang City Food and Agriculture Security Agency (Dispangtan) to maintain and sustain farmer productivity which will ultimately maintain food security in Malang City. Such as providing assistance in the form of fertilizer, rice seeds, agricultural tools and machinery to repairing irrigation facilities.

Some time ago, Dispangtan provided assistance in the form of Inpari 32 rice seeds as much as 2.100 kg to 16 farmer groups (poktan) spread across five sub-districts in Malang City. This type of seed was chosen because it is a superior variety, resistant to brown planthoppers and has quite high productivity, namely 7-9 tons per hectare of rice fields.

Head of Dispangtan Malang City, Slamet Husnan Hariyadi, SP when met on Saturday (29/6/2024) revealed that in the future his party will develop BK 01 type seeds produced by Situbondo Regency. In addition to superior seeds and resistant to brown planthoppers, this type of rice has high productivity, which is around 10-12 tons per hectare.

"In addition, the age of this rice is only 75 days, while Inpari 32 is 120 days. If in one year farmers who plant Inpari 32 rice can harvest 2,5 times, then for BK 01 they can harvest three to four times. This will certainly benefit farmers, and will automatically increase farmer productivity as a step to maintain food security," he added.

Furthermore, Slamet said that his party had communicated with the Situbondo Regency Government and it is hoped that in 2024, farmers in Malang City will be able to plant BK 01 rice seeds. "The farmers welcomed this program so we are optimistic that it can be implemented soon," he continued.

Until now, the productivity of rice is 15.250 tons per year and 7-11 tons per hectare of rice fields. Meanwhile, the rice needs of Malang City residents each year reach 40 thousand tons, and the shortage is met by Perum Bulog. "We have coordinated, so it can be ensured that residents will not lack rice," added Slamet.

With the BK 01 rice seed planting program, it is hoped that in the future, Malang City will be self-sufficient in rice. "With various real steps, we are optimistic that we can realize all of that," he concluded optimistically. (say/yon)
