FGD FLLAJ Malang City Discusses Traffic Engineering Plans

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Traffic and Road Transportation Forum (FLLAJ) held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) at the Mini Block Office of the Malang City Hall, Tuesday (23/7/2024). This FGD discussed traffic engineering plans at several points, namely at the three-way intersection of Jalan KH Malik Dalam - Jalan Mayjen Sungkono, Jalan Buring-Jalan Bromo-Jalan Brigjen Slamet Riadi, Jalan Semeru and on Jalan Bandung.

Head of the Malang City Transportation Agency (Dishub), Widjaja Saleh Putra, explaining the traffic engineering plan at several points in Malang City

Head of the Malang City Transportation Agency (Dishub), Widjaja Saleh Putra, said that this agenda was a follow-up to the discussion in the previous forum, as well as following up on the results of public complaints submitted through the Ngobrol Mbois Ilakes (Ngombe) program.

"The first is related to traffic engineering at the three-way intersection of Kyai Malik Dalam and Mayjend Sungkono Streets, Kedungkandang. There, the volume of vehicles passing through is very high, because it is the main road from the district and Malang City. This is also the impact of the Madyopuro toll road," said Widjaja.

In the area, what can be done is to reduce the density of vehicle volume, and although it is not significant, at least it can be reduced. "So later there will be traffic engineering from the south or from the direction of Jl. Mayjend Sungkono which turns right to Kyai Malik Dalam. We prioritize this because it hinders vehicles that go straight to the Kedungkandang Bridge. Then also to utilize the road under the bridge," he explained.

Specifically, vehicles that want to enter the east direction that want to turn right to Kyai Malik Dalam must go around under the bridge. Later, signs will be installed in the area.

Next is to discuss the problem on Jalan Brigjend Slamet Riadi. Drivers from Jalan Brigjend Salmet Riadi who want to go towards Jalan Kawi and Jalan Ijen have had to turn around to Rajabali. Later, engineering will be carried out by utilizing Jalan Buring which has been one way. So on Jalan Buring it can be made 2 directions. So drivers from Jalan Brigjend Slamet Riadi can turn right onto Jalan Buring, to reduce the burden of traffic on Jalan Basuki Rahmat.

"Yes, this is what I mean, that traffic engineering must continue to be carried out with adjustments to needs in the field," added the man who is often called Jaya.

Meanwhile, related to the evaluation on Jalan Semeru, the meeting point of Jalan Basuki Rahmat north and south, there has been congestion because many vehicles choose to cross.

"If the driver wants to head south or vice versa, or is going to park, go straight to the crossing. "So the solution is to increase the road median by approximately 20-30 meters, so that vehicles don't cross directly," he explained.

Then the fourth discussion is related to the Pedestrian Bridge (JPO) on Jalan Bandung. FLLAJ will try to utilize the JPO on Jalan Ahmad Yani which is planned to be dismantled because it is also considered ineffective and inefficient.

"Later, after it is dismantled, we will study whether the demolition can be reused on Jalan Bandung or not. Because on Jalan Bandung, a JPO is needed to reduce congestion due to the many students crossing in turns," explained Widjaja.

Technically, it is mentioned that it is possible to install a JPO. "But can it be decided immediately for realization, not really. Because it must be studied first whether the JPO construction can be moved just like that. Even if it is possible, we also still have to study the existence of the park there, what to do with it if there is a JPO," he explained.

"For Jalan Bandung, we must continue to commit to completing it, especially for parents who pick up and drop off school children. Because no matter how wide the road is, it will not be able to accommodate the indiscipline of road users," concluded Widjaja. (say/yon)
