City Government Collaborates with Community and Business World to Handle Disasters

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Government continues to strengthen collaboration with the community and business world in various sectors, including in disaster management. The government still needs cross-sector participation to provide support in post-disaster management. Supporting this, the Malang City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) held a Socialization of Increasing Community and Business Participation at the Ijen Suites Hotel & Convention, Thursday (25/7/2024).

Socialization of Increasing Community and Business Participation at Ijen Suites Hotel & Convention

Based on the Regulation of the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Number 12 of 2014 concerning the Role of Business Institutions in the Implementation of Disaster Management. Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM said that this socialization is a strategic effort by the Malang City Government to play a role in handling post-disaster conditions. Especially considering the geographical location of Malang City which is surrounded by mountains and is relatively close to the sea and there are four large rivers that also have the potential to increase disaster vulnerability, such as earthquakes, floods, and landslides including disasters due to extreme weather.

Wahyu said that post-disaster recovery management and efforts to increase awareness and participation of all parties are very crucial. "Synergy and collaboration between the government, society, and the business world are key. The government acts as a facilitator and coordinator, but success in post-disaster management is highly dependent on active community participation and contributions from various parties," he explained.

Therefore, on this occasion, BPBD invited representatives of the community and the business world to be given an overview of the support that can be provided to demonstrate their role and concern in disaster management.

"This is the first activity, so it is expected to provide an overview for the community and the business world regarding where they are positioned to provide support, care, and involvement. We hope that with this socialization, awareness will grow that when there is a disaster, they also have their respective roles," explained Wahyu. (ari/yon)
