Leading Disaster Response Roll Call, These Are the Directions of the Acting Mayor of Malang

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Approximately 2.000 joint cross-sector officers and community volunteers attended the Disaster Response roll call and field rehearsal in front of the Klojen District Office, Malang City, Sunday (28/7/2024). Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM acted as the leader of the roll call which was then continued with a disaster response simulation.

The number one person in the Malang City Government said that this field exercise was a momentum to strengthen strategic efforts to synergize steps in the form of preparedness to face disasters that might occur.

Malang City as a dynamic and continuously developing city, of course, is not free from the potential for disasters, such as earthquakes, floods, landslides and various other disasters. "Therefore, disaster prevention and mitigation efforts are very important to do. This field exercise provides a meaning to hone compliance and improve coordination between agencies and all elements of society in dealing with emergency situations," explained Wahyu.

According to him, the knowledge and skills gained during the training or simulation are very valuable to be applied in everyday life. Both in the context of prevention, handling and post-disaster recovery.

The man born in Malang City also gave some directions. First, increase the readiness of emergency response personnel by providing regular training and simulations to improve skills and mental readiness.

"Second, ensure the readiness of rescue fleets such as fire engines, ambulances and SAR equipment in operational condition, routine maintenance and equipment upgrades must be carried out periodically to ensure that all infrastructure can function optimally when needed," he explained further.

Then Wahyu instructed to improve coordination and communication between various parties, including the government, the community and related institutions to ensure a quick and effective response when a disaster occurs.

"Strengthen synergy and collaboration between various parties. Open up cooperation space with private institutions, non-governmental organizations and local communities that can be realized in programs as a form of disaster mitigation, education and counseling to the community and joint training to strengthen local capacity in dealing with emergency situations," he explained.

Furthermore, Wahyu also appealed for there to be encouragement of preparedness for the entire community in facing disasters which can include understanding the early signs of disasters, as well as the initial steps that must be taken when a disaster occurs.

Wahyu emphasized that no less important is education about disaster prevention and mitigation and it is possible to be part of the education curriculum in schools. "Develop innovation in the use of technology for the dissemination of information and early warning. With high preparedness, skills and knowledge possessed by officers, Malang City will be more prepared and more resilient in facing various disaster challenges in the future," concluded Wahyu.
